P3073x

The Problem

Torqbyte PM3 and CM5 are both installed in-line between the Factory Fuel Pump PWM Module J538 and the Low Pressure Fuel Pump (LPFP). In this configuration they relieve the J538 module from supplying current to the upgraded LPFP while allowing the ECU to stay in control of requested fuel pressure control loop that the vehicle was designed with.

In some rare case, PM3 or CM5 users have observed a 012403 - Fuel Pump Circuit P3073 - 004 - Electrical Malfunction fault in their Tuning or Diagnostic Software. There is no Check Engine Light and no adverse impact on fueling performance or driveability, but some users find the appearance of this DTC a nuisance.

The Cause

In a factory fueling setup, the J538 module drives the factory LPFP. The J538 constantly monitors the current being delivered to the LPFP and its internal processor checks the measured current against the software current threshold limits. When the pump current measurements fall outside of these threshold values, the J538 requests the ECU to assert the P3073 - 004 - Electrical Malfunction DTC.

OEM Fueling Setup

In an upgraded fueling setup, the J538 module drives the PM3, which in turn drives the upgraded TTRS LPFP.

TTRS Fuel Pump Setup

Although the PM3 appears as a light electrical load to the J538, in vast majority of vehicles with a PM3, the J538 module does not assert this DTC.

PM3 Normal System Voltage

However, in some vehicles, especially where the system voltage is lower than the nominal system voltage of 14.3V, the lower system voltage causes less current to be supplied to the PM3 by the J538 module and this causes the DTC to be asserted.

The Solution

The solution is provided in the form of a Torqbyte P3073x module, which plugs in-line between the factory wiring (ECU) and the J538 module.

Installation Procedure

Installation is quick and easy. Clear all codes. Ensure the car if OFF and the battery is disconnected before doing any electrical work on the car.

1. Access the factory J538 module.

2. Disconnect the factory wiring from the J538 module.

 3. Insert the Torqbyte P3073x module using the provided pigtails. Ensure all connector latches are firmly engaged.

P3073x Installed

Warning: The wiring on the P3073x is sized strictly for low current operation. The P3073x module can only be used in vehicles ALREADY equipped with a PM3 or a CM5/CM5-LT. Using the module without a downstream PM3/CM5/CM5-LT installed will destroy the module and cause a fire hazard.
